Some people say that New York is always a good idea. And while we agree with that statement in a general sense, there’s no denying that September may be one of the best times to plan a trip to the Big Apple.

The scorching heat of midsummer has somewhat faded, summer tourists start to clear out, and locals return from their more exotic locales. Two big draws are Fashion Week and the US Open, both of which happen during the first two weeks of the month.

NYFW runs September 8–13, 2026. The US Open main draw runs August 30–September 13, 2026, with Fan Week August 23–29 and the final matches on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Don’t Miss: The rooftop bar! It’s really like a two-in-one experience: Bar Hugo is sophisticated and sexy, while upstairs, Cuban cantina-inspired Azul On The Rooftop is the life of the party.

The Vibe: Boutique refinement in the charmingly historic downtown streets

Who Should Book It: The person who wants something a little more considered and a little less obvious. Seaport is an area that often gets overlooked but shouldn’t. It’s steps away from major subway hubs and has a vibrant dining and nightlife scene all its own.

Don’t Miss: The views! People say the best skyline vantage points are found outside of the city, but with the Brooklyn Bridge directly out your window, the views here are pretty top-notch.

The Location: NoMad

The Vibe: The life of the party. Fun and social, but with rooms that still feel luxe

Who Should Book It: Someone who wants to be right in the heart of the action. You’re only a few blocks away from Penn Station, ideal for taking the Long Island Rail Road out to Queens to catch a tennis match. For days in Manhattan, Broadway’s bustle is just below.

Don’t Miss: The pool deck! September is still warm enough to warrant a little time sunning by the pool, and with views of the Empire State Building, it’s an iconic photo op.

The Location: Midtown

The Vibe: A classic hotel with history, sophistication, and a great location

Who Should Book It: Those who want some serious city access. You’re literally on top of the 42nd Street subway here: take the 7 to Queens for tennis or go anywhere the shows are for Fashion Week. Inside, though, you’re a world away.

Don’t Miss: Getting a martini in the place it was (allegedly) invented! Stop in the Martini Lounge or order one from St. Cloud rooftop, one of the area’s best vantage points.
