5 Cozy Hotels for Fall
Cozy Up This Fall
From Central Park to Tofino
Five hotels for crisp mornings and fireside evenings, from Central Park to Tofino.
Fall weather calls for a cozy trip. It’s time to break out those flannels and fisherman’s knit sweaters, pull on a pair of fuzzy socks, and hunker down somewhere that feels like a warm hug.
As always, we’ve done our best to deliver range, so if “cozy” looks like a five-star hotel in New York City, then yes, we’ve got a pick. Want to head deep into the mountains? We’re handing you the tent stakes for a stay in the Smokies. From New England history to Vancouver Island’s blustery west coast, these picks each deliver a different way to make the most of the season.
1 Hotel Central Park
The Location: Midtown Manhattan, just steps from the park
The Vibe: The most sophisticated take on an eco-conscious urban escape. Reclaimed materials, 40,000 (!!) live plants, and access to Central Park make this stay feel more like a fabulous five-star treehouse than a Midtown hotel.
Get Cozy: The whole hotel captures that hygge feeling, with warm wood tones, plush bedding, and spaces incorporating an array of natural textures. Certain room types even feature window nooks with pillow-lined benches made for curling up with a book and looking out at autumn in the city.
Omni Parker House
The Location: The heart of downtown Boston, a short walk from Boston Common
The Vibe: Historic class. Omni Parker House is the longest continuously operating hotel in America, originally opened in 1855. That means you can expect plenty of old-world charm, though rooms are stylishly modern.
Get Cozy: Take a stroll through Boston Common when the leaves are at their peak (late October/early November) or stay on-site and settle in at one of the hotel’s wood-paneled dining rooms. Order Boston Cream Pie at Parker’s Restaurant (where it was invented!) or keep things low-key cozy at Parker’s Bar.
Pacific Sands Beach Resort
The Location: Tofino, a surf town on the west coast of Vancouver Island
The Vibe: A grounded way to do a Pacific beach trip. Residential-style suites are interspersed among the evergreens, with layouts stretching up to 3 bedrooms, plus full kitchens and gas fireplaces in each.
Get Cozy: We don’t blame you if you just want to wrap yourself in a blanket and watch the waves crash from your oceanfront suite’s deck. That being said, there’s plenty to do if you want to head out, from bike rentals to unwinding with a session in one of the waterfront barrel saunas.
Fontana Village Resort & Marina
The Location: Overlooking Fontana Lake in North Carolina
The Vibe: Quintessential Smoky Mountains lodge escape. Think hiking trails, scenic drives, days on the lake, and fire pits to gather around in the evening. It’s total mountain immersion, just with high-speed wifi.
Get Cozy: There are several ways to stay here: in the main lodge, in a cabin, or at the campground. While we respect those of you strong enough to wrestle with tent poles on vacation, for us, peak cozy vibes mean booking a cabin, complete with private porches and fireplaces in some.
The Porches Inn
The Location: Massachusetts’s literal smallest city, in the Berkshires
The Vibe: An inn that calls historic Victorian row houses home, but with a finger on the city’s modern creative pulse. Expect classic New England charm with a little bit more color, texture, and funk.
Get Cozy: With a whole mountain range just outside the door, hiking is a classic choice here, though in town and onsite, there’s a lot more to love. Stop in at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, or stay at the inn and take a dip in the heated pool or hot tub. And yes, the inn has porches and a fire pit for cozy contemplation, a must for this list.
